It actually started off with the following:
WORLD CLUB CHAMPIONS!!- gotta love the mighty ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS
The text arrived at 9.15am after the Dragons as they are known to some won the Rugby League World Club game.
Dad has been sending these types of texts whenever “his” team plays, win, lose or draw, there is always a mention of “gotta love”, which is usually followed by “the big red V” or “the mighty Dragons” – something that Dad has been saying for ever since I can remember even if they were not playing so might he was alluding to.
The unabashed support for the Dragons/Steelers and then Illawarra Dragons – something to do with the red and white – I also remember going to watch an FA Cup final one night when I was around 7 or 8 and see the Gunners play. A quick search tells me that it could have been any of the years between 78 – 80 when the Gooners made their three in a row cup final appearances. We arrived at my grandfathers place I think that he followed them as well due to the allegiance of the colour – though I’m not sure about that one.
I was going to keep a chronicle of these messages in the last season – but things got a little behind. So start it off on the right foot is the way to go.
